UM Recruiting Notes 10/7

–Miami is targeting several wide receivers that are absolute play-makers. While we can’t release the names of the recruits they are going after quite yet, rest assured they are pursuing some of the top kids in the country. Don’t be surprised if the Canes add an elite wide out to join Angelo Jean-Louis for the class of 2013. With that being said, if the kid doesn’t fit the type of player they’re looking for, they will pass altogether.

–Speaking of studs, the coaches are still searching for that JUCO defensive tackle that will make an instant impact. A lot of the junior college kids graduate in December, which will be beneficial to the team next season. Some names have surfaced, but nothing substantial so far. They’re in the hunt, and like stated before, a commitment  can come at any time.

–University School defensive end Tim Williams still has Miami as one of his top schools, but word from Louisiana is that it will be hard to get him at this point. Among other things, the location of Florida State is really helping them in their recruitment of Williams. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound d-lineman told CaneInsider.com that Miami is his dream school. That may be the biggest factor keeping The U in the mix. For now, it’s a three way battle between Miami, Florida State and LSU.

Tony Stevens, Orlando (Fla.) Evans wide receiver, de-committed from Florida State last week. He is a tall, lengthy receiver that has a lot of potential. However, from past interviews with him, he has never shown interest in The U. It looks like Ohio State is in a good position for him.

–Class of 2013 wide receiver Jordan Cunningham recently took an official visit to Oklahoma State and enjoyed it. He has Stanford, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Alabama, Mami and FSU as his top schools. He still might visit Miami, but not on an official since they are so close. Academics will play a huge role in his recruitment and Stanford has to be the favorite at this point.
