Sophomore Linebacker Jimmy Martin Recaps Junior Day
Orangewood Christian (Maitland, Fla.) linebacker Jimmy Martin, albeit only a sophomore, was invited to attend the University of Miami’s Junior Day last Sunday as well as the Tom Lemming photo shoot which took place earlier that same day. He talked about his experience in South Florida with CaneInsider.com.
“We got there around 9 a.m.,” Martin said. “There were probably around 40-50 kids there. We took individual pictures and then a group picture. From there we went to Miami’s Junior Day.
“It started at 11 a.m. We got there and walked around. We got our height and weight, met some coaches and went to a big meeting room. Then they split us into groups, offense and defense. From there we went on a tour. We got to see the business building and some other stuff. From there we ate lunch and I think I talked to Hurlie (Brown), Brennan (Carroll) and the linebackers coach, Coach (Michael) Barrow.”
Martin, 5-foot-11 and 205-pounds, was impressed by the new facilities that UM is on the cusp of completing. He also had a chance to continue developing a relationship with Miami linebackers coach Michael Barrow.
“I could feel that he has a true passion for football,” Martin said of Coach Barrow. “He loves to coach and he would be a great coach to play for. What I thought was awesome, and this was a couple years ago but it sticks with me today, is that I had a WWJD bracelet on and he told me before the game they listen to Christian pump-up music. That got me pumped up just hearing that.”
The Class of 2015 prospect will not get much rest as he has a busy schedule with visits, camps and combines in the upcoming months. “I’m going to Michigan and then after that in February I am going to Notre Dame for their junior day.”
