Miami Hurricanes Recruiting Notes 1-28-2013
For recruiting, the NCAA guidelines state that it’s the contact period until Feb. 2, followed by a quiet period on Feb. 3, and then a dead period through National Signing Day from Feb. 4-7.
-Keith Bryant just finished up with his official visit to South Carolina, and of course, loved it. He has said that about most visits he’s taken so far. Many are worried that he has FSU and South Carolina out front, however if you’ve been following Bryant’s recruitment, what he says carries little weight. Part of his “recruiting process” has been getting excitement out of the fans. Going back to Day 1, Miami was his dream school and he always wanted to go there. Then, he went out and visited schools outside of South Florida and realized the world is bigger than he realized. He is processing that and it’s anyone’s guess right now where he’ll end up. Miami still has a great shot with him, if they want him.
-Stacy Coley has been rumored as a silent commit to Miami. How true that is yet to be determined. Miami’s had eight decommitments for the Class of 2013, so how much does a silent commit really mean? There’s not any reason to be a silent, especially only nine days away from National Signing Day. A caller on Brian “The Beast” London’s radio show called in claiming to be a Northeast assistant coach—the high school Coley attends—and said that Coley is coming to Miami. You can listen to the audio HERE:
-Matthew Thomas visited Florida State with his mom over the weekend. He had Florida State in the lead earlier in the recruiting process and the Noles are doing a great job of keeping themselves in the running despite losing their best recruiter (James Coley) to Miami and defensive coordinator (Mark Stoops) to Kentucky. At the Under Armour All-America game, Thomas admitted that the influences to attend Miami were starting get to him. He’s been keeping things close to the vest, and will make his decision on National Signing Day. Miami is sitting in a good place now.
-Miami prospects offensive lineman Denver Kirkland and running back Alex Collins both visited Arkansas recently. Collins had a great time on the visit and Arkansas fans showed up for him. Some are wondering what connection Collins has to Arkansas. Former Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema is now the head coach there. Also, former Miami head coach Randy Shannon is coaching the linebackers for the Razorbacks. While his decision is coming National Signing Day and he claims to have no leader, Collins has been to Miami several times because of proximity and was once committed there, so that should all weigh in favor of the Canes. As far as Kirkland, Arkansas was a little bit of a surprise visit. Many consider him to be a UM-FSU battle with Ole Miss being the dark horse.
