Nation’s No.2 Senior is a Duke Blue Devil!
Rather than draw out his recruiting to next spring, our No.2 rated senior, 6-8 220-pound Jabari Parker from Chicago, IL Simeon High made his college choice this afternoon on ESPNU and is headed to Duke next fall.
“What brought me to the decision is, of course, the history,” Parker said. “Duke was always going to be a team in the tournament. You can’t go wrong at the program. And most importantly, the long-term investment — I feel if I go there, I can get a good degree.
“I can also stay close to home, where it’s easily accessible for my parents, for my family. It’s not too far away. And it’s just Coach K — that’s one of the best coaches ever, and I wanted to be able to experience the things that he has next year.”
He chose Duke over Michigan State and also considered Florida, Stanford and BYU as serious contenders.
His dad Sonny Parker filled us in on what made Duke the right choice for Jabari and why he feels he will best prepare for the future in Durham
Parker is an outstanding point forward who brings a high basketball IQ and versatility to Duke’s lineup. He can score from three or roll to the block and score in the post with his back to the basket. He can face-up with range out to the three point line. then use his overall skills to make others around hum better. He is an excellent passer and rebounder who can start the break with his dribble and go coast-to-coast or hit open man on wing for easy duece or long range three.. Parker is capable of defending either forward spot and will be a play maker who can change the game in Coach K’s program.
Biggest question mark for the future will be how long will he be in a Blue Devil uniform…so stay tuned!
